How to Play Gilli Danda :

· Use a long stick (danda) and a smaller stick (gilli).

· Strike the gilli with the danda to make it fly into the air.

· Earn points based on how far the gilli flies or by performing tricks.

· Try to catch the gilli after hitting it before it hits the ground.

· Players alternate turns hitting and catching the gilli to score points.

Cutting wood into desired shape then pruning and carving the toys on the lathe machine and then the workpiece is given a smooth touch using sandpaper.

Applying colors which are natural dyes,Then workpiece is touched up with palm leaf which gives luster and shine.

Channapatna in Karnataka is also fondly called Gombegala Ooru, or a city of toys. It is a traditional craft which is protected as a geographical indication (GI-23) under the World Trade Organization, administered by the Government of Karnataka.

Channapatna toys are made of wood, lacquer - a natural resin and non-toxic colors. Ivory-wood which is also called as "Aale mara" is the main wood used and other light woods are used occasionally.

Channapatna toys is popular for the cute and the flawless craftsmanship which is illustrated in these toys.
